Dear Valued Patients,
On or around July 15, 2019, Washington Urology Associates discovered that a ransomware attack was propagated against the facility. The installation of the ransomware resulted in encryption of certain data contained on Washington Urology’s system. In an effort to determine what information was potentially accessed, we engaged a forensic team to investigate the incident. We recently concluded the forensic investigation, which determined that there is no evidence to suggest that patients’ sensitive information has been misused; however, out of an abundance of caution we are providing you with notice of this event so that you may take steps to protect your sensitive information.
In light of this incident, we have taken steps to prevent a similar incident from occurring again, including working closely with a forensic team and staff to ensure that sensitive data is properly protected and always maintained in a confidential manner. We are keenly aware of how important personal information is and we understand that this incident may pose an inconvenience. Washington Urology Associates is committed to providing exceptional care, and this includes protecting personal information, and we want to assure you that we have policies and procedures in place to protect your privacy.
We are working diligently to restore systems and return to the level of care and attention you have come to expect from our group. Again, we apologize for the confusion and delay. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best Regards,
Brenda Carter FACMPE
